Meeting Minutes
January 12, 2006

President Al Copp called his first HZBA monthly meeting to order at 12:08 pm

Officer Reports:

  1. President: Al welcomed everyone to the meeting and everyone introduced themselves. We have several new members/guests with us: Frank Rochowiak of Power Protection, Judy Garrett of Garrett Contracting, Mark Ritter of Gateway Technical Services, Patti Shawgo of Carrollton Mortgage Services and Leigh Caplan of Money Mailer. Al thanked Dave for doing a great job as President.
  2. Secretary: The minutes from the November meeting were approved as written. There were no minutes December as this was our winter social.
  3. Treasurer: Jeannie was unable to attend the meeting.

Old Business:
  1. A draft budget is to be distributed at the February meeting for consideration.

Committee Reports:
  1. Directory: Dave gave this report for Rose. A disappointing ten ads have been received by Rose for the BRAND NEW DIRECTORY. THIS IS A GLOSSY, COLOR PUBLICATION. Our goal was 85 members participating. Small ad is $100, 4 ¼” x 3 ¼”, large ad is $175, 4 ¼” x 7 ½”. Please email to Rose at or delivery your artwork to Wheatley Associates Office, 16928 York Road between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm. The deadline has been extended two weeks. Al will coordinate a telephone calling plan to try to increase participation.
  2. Membership: We welcome Hereford Title, Gateway Technical Services and Michael Picorello, Home Inspector. Jim Deluca will now chair this committee. .
  3. Web Master: Website is up to date including all new members. Activity is increasing; averaging 37 visits a day. The most visited page is the roster.
  4. Fall Fest: Mary was unable to attend the meeting.
  5. Hospitality: Dianne was unable to attend the meeting.
  6. Raffle Baskets: John will continue to chair this committee but suggested changes for the upcoming year. These will be discussed at a later date.

Hereford Community Association Report
Paul Cummings, President of HCA encouraged all members of the HZBA to join the HCA at the minimal cost of $10 annually. The association is the political arm for HZBA. They need as many members as possible. One of the association’s intents is to address concerns and assist the business community in the village. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every other month. The next meeting is February 14, 2006. Call or email Paul Cummins at 410-357-0252 or for more information.

Member Spotlight:
Judy Garrett of Garrett Contracting, LLC. introduced us to the six year old company owned and operated by her son. Their concentration has in the past been mostly commercial (underground utility, water main tapping, etc.); however they are now expanding into residential work including excavation, dump truck services and septic installation. They are long time residents of White Hall. They can be reached at .

Mark Ritter of Gateway Technical Services introduced us to his 20 year old company that supports small to mid-sized organizations. They offer services to organize the sales and marketing processes by utilizing software called GOLDMINE. They concentrate on Customer Relationship Management—training, installation and analysis. Frank Rochowiak of Power Protection introduced his 13 year old company that offers tech support services to small to mid-sized companies including a monthly service to download all MS updates, check SPAM, Spyware, Back-ups, etc... Leigh Caplan introduced his company, Money Mailer. This direct marketing piece can be mass mailed, mailed to certain zip codes or even certain distances from businesses—it is directly targeted. His area covers Baltimore County, Towson and York Road into PA, where there are 80,000 households. Money Mailer can design, print and mail your piece. This year they are also supporting the Children’s Miracle Network with a portion of all proceeds going to Johns Hopkins. Leigh can be reached at 410-294-4001 or .

New Business

  1. Alyson has been unable to confirm Stanley Jacobs, CFO, Department of Economic Development as a speaker for our February meeting.
  2. An ad hoc committee will meet to review the HZBA policies on donations. Joan, Paulette and Kathy agreed to be on the committee.
  3. Paulette distributed opportunities to promote your company and support the HVFC at the same time. The Art Auction, Golf Outing and Summer Outdoor Movies are just a few. Call Paulette for information at 410-329-4543 or .
  4. The Wednesday Spaghetti Night is getting good reviews!
  5. Joan thanked everyone for supporting the Cluster Food Bank this past year. They are open Monday and Saturday 10am-noon and Wednesday 5pm-7pm for drop offs. Joan can be reached at 410-357-4543
